The Muslim golden age is a false myth on multiple levels: it consisted in mere preservation of Greek and Roman texts at best (which usually entered west European civilization by other routes anyway); almost ALL of the great figures of the Muslim Middle Ages/Cordoba etc were Christians, pupils of Christians, Jews, or Persians/Central Asians. Almost none were Arabs, and even aside from their origins, almost none were Muslim by belief, but atheist or cryptoatheist (including to be fair the Christians and Jews I mentioned). Aside from a few heretical branches Islam is a self conscious vehicle for the darkening of the intellect and accelerated the inner biological meaning of the religions that came out of the Near East (to serve as a funnel for Africa into Eurasia)

Since you have the usual Islamic pilpul (what is Arabic legalistic disputation called?) in replies let me make it clearer what the examples I used drive at…for dolts: the purpose of talking about “Islamic golden age” is to imply advancements in science and the arts can be attributed to Islam (in which Arabs and the Arabic language play a prominent role). Part of this is meant as a way to assuage the fears of European partisans of the Enlightenment about Islamic presence in Europe.

This is an illegitimate point if in fact what happened was: culture X takes over the parts of a planet around a small sea/gulf that had already existing high culture and a tradition of scientific disputation for over 1000 years; culture X is itself not new but an old and not-stupid middleman culture that had managed part of the trade between the far east of central continent and this sea for a long time. But at some point it became religiously fanatic, organized and managed to take over vast areas that it had previously acted within as merchants or mercenaries (I say this without condemnation)

Following this takeover, there appears a brief flourishing of arts and sciences under the rule of culture X; BUT: nearly ALL the individuals active in this flourishing are from previous religions, and the rare exceptions are students of men of previous religions. The remainder are from a different race that hates and resents being conquered so they make up a heretical version(s) of this new religion. Nearly none are from culture X itself.

Even so, many in this mini enlightenment are open or half open atheists…many are accused or executed for heresy by culture X, which soon after its youthful phase appears to be a bigoted militant vehicle for Ned Flanders types on steroids. The individuals and heroes of this mini enlightenment also have to develop the most sophisticated devices yet for crypsis and esoteric writing to escape the accusations from imbecile Ned Flanders that culture X apparently empowers. Even with all this, art, science and progress is snuffed out by culture X always within 200-400 years and never comes back.

1000 years later culture X, powerless and reduced to migrants for welfare, activists, and living off a natural resource they rely on others to mine, tries to take credit for “Are X Golden Age”
